The primary activity of AMMBC is the certification of ethnic minority businesses throughout Arkansas and Mississippi. These include African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans. NMSDC is the only national minority business development organization providing certification throughout the U.S. where MBEs are genuinely minority-owned and operated, and ready to do business.

The purpose of certification is to identify bona fide minority businesses. The national certification process requires that minority businesses in our network are at least 51 percent minority-owned, operated and controlled. A combination of screenings, interviews and a site visit to establish eligibility. This feature distinguishes NMSDC from other organizations or entities that publish directories which allow "self-certification" as their standard. Applicant MBEs meeting the certification criteria are eligible for specified services provided by NMSDC and its Regional Councils.

There are 39 certifying Councils across the country which makes up the network of National Minority Supplier Development Council. Many major corporations, including approximately 350 of the Fortune 500 companies, require certification from within the NSMDC network and have active MBE programs.

Corporations may become members at the national and/or local levels. There are many benefits to joining at the local level, such as participation in local major events, including our annual Minority Business Opportunity Fair.
